Categories

Categories group your services so customers can scan a long list quickly. They are purely organisational — they don't change price, duration, or availability.

When to use categories

  • You offer 3+ services.
  • Your services fall into obvious groups (e.g. Domestic, End-of-Tenancy, Commercial).
  • You want to display a category landing page or filter the booking form by group.

If you have 1–2 services, skip categories and just put the service directly on the booking form. Advik Booking will hide the Category step automatically.

Categories vs Sub-categories

Advik Booking supports two levels of grouping:

TermUse forExample
CategoryTop-level group.Domestic Cleaning
Sub-categoryOptional, nested inside a category.Weekly / Fortnightly / One-off

A service can sit in one or more categories and one or more sub-categories — useful when a service is offered under multiple groups (e.g. a "Carpet cleaning" service under both Domestic and Commercial).

Where to find it

Hiding a category temporarily

Flip the Active switch off. The category disappears from the booking form, but the data and past bookings are preserved.

Deleting a category

Deleting a category also removes its sub-categories and the placements linking services to it. The services themselves are not deleted — they just become uncategorised. If you delete the only category a service was in, that service will not appear on the booking form until you assign it to a new category.

!

Soft delete safety net

You will be asked to confirm. After deletion, the category is hidden from public listings immediately. To restore, re-create with the same slug — the existing services will reattach automatically.

How categories show on the booking form

With the default Booking Flow, the customer sees a "Category" step before the "Service" step. The category is presented as a card grid or radio list (you choose in Appearance).

Reordering

Drag-and-drop in the category list to change the front-end order. Sub-categories can be reordered the same way.
